Definition and Introduction of Mechanical Engineering
In single sentence Mechanical engineering is a branch of engineering that deals with the machines and their mechanism.
But MECHANICAL ENGINEERING is one of the oldest and broadest branches of engineering. This field is also referred to as the ‘MOTHER’ branch of engineering. Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering that applies the principle of physics and material science and involves in the production of heat and mechanical power for analysis, design, manufacturing, production, operation and the maintenance of machine & tools.
Mechanical engineering generally depend on the three factors i.e theforce, energy and the motion.
The field of mechanical engineering requires an understanding of core concepts i.e., mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis, electricity, robotics, fluid mechanics, software tools like computer-aided Design engineering (Auto CAD, Pro-E, CATIA), management engineering to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, transport systems, heating and cooling systems, watercraft, aircraft, medical devices.
Now a days this field is pursuing developments in fields like composites, mechatronics, and nanotechnology. Mechanical engineering also overlapping with some other branches such as aerospace engineering,, metallurgical engineering, marine engineering, building services engineering, civil engineering, , petroleum engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, and chemical engineering. Biomedical engineering, specifically with biomechanics, transport phenomena, bionanotechnology, biomechatronics, and modeling of biological systems, like the soft tissue mechanics.
People who study or works as a mechanical engineer plays a dominant role in enhancing the design, operation, safety, economic vitality and the overall quality of life throughout the globe.
